Over the past 4 years of being a stay at home mum, I’ve tried and tested a tonne of alternative ways to boost your income from home. Let me share with you some of my favourites!
I am not promoting any of these services as an affiliate. I do use some of these services but I don’t get any compensation for mentioning their products/services. And I am absolutely not implying that these services will give you a million dollar income or that you will be able to use the money from these services as your sole income support. But they are great for boosting your ‘for fun’ funds!
The income that I generate through the services I use is to spend ONLY on myself (big selfish me, haha). Being a stay at home mum doesn’t give you the opportunity to have all of life’s little luxuries that you did BC (before children). And the mum guilt that floods you when you want to purchase something solely for yourself is never pleasant. The income generated from the home income opportunities I use doesn’t feel like money that I am taking away from the family. It gives me the opportunity to reward myself without the ‘mum guilt’. So get ready to be inspired and good luck in growing your own ‘for fun’ funds!
This list is based on at home income opportunities for Australians. They may be available throughout the world but you would have to confirm with each of the services.
Survey sites are used for large scale market research. I use two survey sites, Valued Opinions and Purkle (previously ‘nine rewards’). I currently have about $30 income sitting in each of my accounts. Surveys you complete will credit you with anywhere from $1 to $10+ for your time. The size and requirements of each survey varies. Some surveys take less than 10 minutes, while other surveys could take 30 minutes to complete. I’ve found that I get emailed at least one survey opportunity daily. If I choose to complete every survey opportunity that is delivered to my inbox my income balance would grow quite quickly.
The only negative I can identify with survey sites is that you can’t withdraw your accrued income as a cash payment. You are paid by cashing in your survey dollars for gift cards. Currently, you are able to cash in and purchase gift cards from companies like Myer, Woolworths, Coles, Dymocks, JB Hi-Fi and other large retailers.
eBay doesn’t need much of an introduction. It is a highly respected company that has been around for many years. You can sell items that you already have in your home or you can travel the road of Sophia Amoruso (author of #girlboss) and purchase niche items to sell in an eBay store at an elevated price. Just make sure you do your research and are familiar with what similar products are selling for and decide if it is worth listing or not.
Have a skill creating handmade items? Etsy is a wonderland for someone like me, a shopper (unfortunately I wasn’t gifted with magic, creative hands). I can search hundreds of people’s online Etsy stores and find beautiful, unique handmade items. Large corporations and Chinese mass production factories are not welcome there! If you have a talent for sewing, quilting, pottery, photography or anything creative, share your talents with the world and earn money while doing it!
Tribe is quite new to me, I have only been using it for a short time. It is a platform for influencers to earn cash for posting a sponsored ad to their social media accounts. A minimum following of 3,000 is required for you to be accepted. But once you’re all signed up ready to go there are heaps of companies, advertising their opportunities. All you need to do is pitch them your ad and name your price!
ScanNGo is a smart phone app created for IRI Shopper Panel. It is a platform created for market research which requires you to scan products that you purchase when you are shopping. Scanning products earns you points which you can cash in for products or gift vouchers. I currently have about 12,000 points sitting in my account that I have accrued over the past 3-4 months just by scanning in my weekly grocery shop. Everyone shops, whether it’s the weekly grocery shop at Aldi or buying the kids school supplies from Big W. Sign up, download the app and get scanning (when you scan a product you get a really satisfying *beep* noise as well. Haha).
Can you drive without hitting stuff and are a bit of a small talk extraordinaire? Then Uber might be for you!
If you haven’t heard of Uber you may have been hiding under a rock for some time. It is a ride sharing service that allows regular people to use their own cars to taxi people around! If you have a full Australian driver’s license and a nearly new car then give it a try. You can work as much or as little as you like and you can choose hours that suit you. So you can work during the kid’s school hours or for a couple of hours before and/or after your day job!
“AVON calling!”. Party planning is not a new concept but is still a fantastic option for the right people. Personally, party planning is not for me – I’ve tried, numerous times. But I know a few people that have climbed quite high up their respective companies ladders to earn cars and overseas holidays! If you have a passion for selling and have a good group of friends then find a direct selling company that you’re passionate about. Some popular direct selling companies at the moment are AVON, Scentsy, Younique and Nutrimetics but there are plenty more to choose from!
Do you know your way around a computer? Or are you a freelance or in between jobs graphic designer or content creator? Fiverr is a fantastic platform for people to sell their technological talents or creative knowledge! I’ve been a Fiverr customer a number of times since starting my blog, mainly for graphic design purposes and my husband has also used it for his business a number of times. Setting up an account is quick and easy, then all you need to do is advertise your gig (service). Payments to you are only processed through PayPal, so be sure to have an account.
I hope these tips were helpful and good luck! If you know of other great ways to earn an income from home please share then in the comments.
